๐Ÿ’ผ On-Campus Employment

International students at Wright State may work on campus for up to 20 hours/week during the semester and up to 28 hours/week during official breaks. These limits apply across all jobs combined.

โœ… Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrolled full-time (minimum 6 credit hours for undergrads)
  • Complete the I-9 employment verification process
  • Provide valid documents: passport, visa, I-20, I-94
  • Obtain or apply for a Social Security Number
  • Receive official work authorization before starting
  • Only on-campus or university-affiliated jobs are allowed
  • Receive official approval email before working
  • Off-campus work requires special authorization
  • Federal Work Study positions are not available to international students

๐Ÿ†” Social Security Number (SSN)

Process: Get a job offer โ†’ Request SSN letter from employer & UCIE โ†’ Apply at Social Security office.
Office: 80 N Progress Dr, Xenia, OH  |  Processing Time: ~2โ€“4 weeks.
Note: The SSN does NOT give permission to work โ€” it's needed to receive payment and file taxes.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Taxes

You must file U.S. taxes if you earn income. F-1 students are usually exempt from FICA taxes during their first 5 years. Taxes are automatically deducted from your paycheck.

Never exceed allowed work hours. Violations may affect your visa status. Prioritize academics and maintain a strong GPA while working.
